Welcome to CantoMando! I am your teacher Jojo Hong. I was born in Guangzhou, China, and I moved to Vancouver when I was 13. I am fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Many years ago I started doing freelance translation work, then one day a client said to me, "Jojo, why don't you teach Chinese?".
I had my first lesson ten years ago, I realized how much fun I had teaching Chinese and has become a passion for me now to continue to share this language with everyone. Two years ago I had the amazing opportunity to teach level 1 Cantonese at Vancouver Community College, while I am grateful for the experience, it also made me a true believer of personalised, one on one approach to adult language learning.
Currently all lessons are one-on-one and lessons are all held online via zoom or facetime. These lessons are generally 1 to 1.5 hours in length, once or twice per week.
Lesson Cost Information:

Lessons are $40/hour. (The length of lessons varies from 30 mins to 2 hrs.)

Discounts are available for advanced payments. For advanced payment of 4 hrs, I offer a discounted rate of $35 per hour. For advanced payments of 10 hrs, I offer a discounted rate of $30 per hour.

If your ready to start lessons, setting up an initial appointment is the first step to your learning. This one time meeting lasts approximately 15-30 minutes and provides the following:

Getting to know each other better.

Seeing the books and materials we will be using in the lessons.

Understanding your needs and expectations as the student, and create a lesson plan to reach your goals.

Discuss about scheduling and time-frame.
After the meeting you will be ready for your first Chinese lesson! Congratulations!
Students - Important Notice on Cancellations:

Lessons are fairly flexible, but it is the students responsibility to inform meif he/she needs to reschedule or cancel lessons.

Please notify me at least 7 hours before our scheduled class if a reschedule is needed.

Students will be charged for the lesson, if a student cancels within 6 hours of our scheduled class.
